Currently we’re looking for an experienced and dynamic Head of Ecommerce to lead the digital strategy for the Playmobil – the iconic toy brand that has sparked imagination in children and adults alike for over 45 years. With operations spanning 17 countries across Europe, the United States, and Canada, Playmobil is a key player in the international toy market, known for its high-quality, durable playsets that inspire creativity and storytelling.
As the Head of Ecommerce, you’ll have a central role in driving growth and innovation across all digital channels. You’ll lead a team of ecommerce experts, develop and implement strategic plans, optimize the online customer journey, and expand our digital footprint to capture new markets. This is a unique opportunity to shape a global ecommerce strategy for a trusted brand known for its creativity, quality, and commitment to making play meaningful.
The core qualities of Head of Ecommerce
- Experience: min. 5 years in a leadership role within eCommerce.
- Background: Proven track record in reputable eCommerce companies, large agencies, or substantial startup experience, with a focus on managing webshops generating a minimum of seven figures in revenue.
- eCommerce Platforms: Expertise in Salesforce Commerce Cloud preferred, or platforms like Magento, Spryker, and Commercetools.
- Cross-functional collaboration: Coordinate closely with global stakeholders (from logistics, IT, and marketing) and external partners to streamline product availability, promotions, and customer experience enhancements.
- Product and Assortment Optimization: Define and manage product category structure and assortment strategies, aligning offerings with regional and global market trends and customer preferences.

- E-commerce and Category Strategy Development: Formulate and execute a global e-commerce and category strategy that maximizes revenue growth, market share, and customer engagement, tailored to the company’s portfolio.
- Campaign Leadership and Trade Planning: Strategically design and coordinate campaigns and trade plans, collaborating with marketing and creative teams to increase product visibility and customer acquisition in multiple regions.
- Customer Experience Optimization: Lead plans and improvements in user experience (UX) and user interface (UI), ensuring an intuitive, customer-centric shopping experience across platforms.
- Product and Assortment Optimization: Define and manage product category structure and assortment strategies, aligning offerings with regional market trends and customer preferences.
- Performance Analysis and Insights: Regularly review data on traffic, sales performance, and customer behavior. Use these insights to refine strategies and address emerging market opportunities and customer needs.
- Team Leadership and Development: Manage an e-commerce team, promoting professional growth, goal alignment, and best practices to drive performance across all markets.
- Cross-functional collaboration: Coordinate closely with marketing, purchasing, logistics, and IT to streamline product availability, promotions, and customer experience enhancements.
- Supplier and Partner Relations: Build and maintain relationships with global key stakeholders and external partners, to support eCommerce growth and profitability.
- Innovation and Competitive Benchmarking: Stay informed about e-commerce trends, competitor activity, and category innovations, applying these insights to improve offerings and maintain a competitive edge.
- Strategic Reporting and Stakeholder Engagement: Provide regular updates to senior management, detailing e-commerce and category performance, key insights, and recommendations for continuous improvement.
